Form & Content / Private & Public / Circulation & Distribution

This project is both a physical version and a web version. From the original printings of Benjamin Franklin’s Pennsylvania Chronicle, to the visually iconic dispatches from the Black Panther Party, to the recently fetishized art object, the newspaper is a historically subversive format. Though technology has contributed to the decline of mainstream newspapers, it has also spurred a revival of the small press. With on-demand publishing, anyone with an idea can move fluidly between the roles of writer, designer, publisher and distributor.

In this project, I must design, produce, and distribute a newspaper in dialogue with a specific community. The impulse to publish stems from a desire to either make an idea public or to create a public around an idea. Publishing is most successful when it does both.

Above is a newspaper I have created filled with articles I have found pertaining to the topic of artistic entrepreneurship which I will distribute to those who are attending the Otis College of Art and Design’s Artist Alley Fall 2024 and the La Tijera Zine Fest.
